Discover some of the best surf spots around the world, from the laid-back waves in Thailand to the tropical paradise of Sri Lanka. Whether you're a complete beginner or have been surfing for years, these destinations should top your list.

Khao Lak, Thailand

Khao Lak's chill vibes are waiting for you on Thailand's west coast, just a short 60 km north of Phuket. It's the perfect spot if you're after a relaxed beach escape. It has been growing in popularity recently, drawing in both locals and travellers looking to catch laid-back waves without the crowds.

The best surf happens from May to October, delivering consistent swells ranging from waist-high to overhead. This period offers uncrowded lineups and favourable conditions for surfers of all levels.

Looking for the best spots? Check out Memories Beach for gentle breaks that are suitable for all skill levels, while Pakarang Beach offers a bit more peeling waves for intermediate or advanced surfers.

Where to stay: Avani+ Khao Lak Resort has its own stretch of pristine beach and jungle, perfectly located near the best surf spots.

Bali, Indonesia

Nicknamed the “Island of the Gods,” Bali is one of the most famous surf destinations – and for good reason. Its diverse coastlines and constant waves ensure that surfers of all levels can find their perfect ride. Plus, Bali is packed with surf schools and rental shops, so you’ll never have to go far to grab a board and catch some waves.

The island’s dry season, from May to September, offers the best conditions, with clean, consistent swells ranging from 1 to 2.5 metres and minimal wind.

Here’s where you should surf: Kuta Beach is perfect for beginners, with its mellow, steady waves. For a real challenge, head to Uluwatu, famous for its powerful reef breaks – ideal for seasoned surfers. And don’t miss Canggu, known for its laid-back vibe and a mix of waves suitable for all levels.

Where to stay: Avani Seminyak Bali Resort is a tropical hideaway in the trendy Seminyak area, ideal for beginner waves and just a short distance from Kuta Beach.

Broadbeach, Australia

Located right on Australia’s Gold Coast, Broadbeach is the go-to spot for consistent waves with an amazing city backdrop and thriving surf culture. It’s widely regarded as one of the best dynamic surfing spots for both beginners and advanced surfers, with plenty of nearby cafes and amenities to chill, hang out, and surf.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a surfer’s dream, with waves for every skill level all year round. Thanks to the island’s shifting weather patterns, there’s always a coast with perfect conditions. Beach cafés, yoga sessions and a laid-back island vibe make it more than just a surf trip – it’s a full experience.
