Every Gadget You Need to Work From Home Like a Pro

OTHER STUFF

For workers everywhere the past 1.5 years have been challenging: they had to adapt to many abrupt changes, such as working from home, and learn new things on-the-fly. And while some companies now want staff back in the office, many bosses favour remote work or a combination of the two. With the WFH trend going strong, here are some ideas for sprucing up your home office setup while achieving optimal productivity in comfort and style.

Work Desk

If you’ve been working from bed or your kitchen table, upgrading to a proper workspace will not only do wonders for your productivity and motivation, but your back will also thank you for it. Our favourite desks from IKEA, INDESK, or Desker come with adjustable height features so you can switch things up a bit and alternate between sitting down and standing up (thus burning more calories). You can take your fitness game up a notch by adding a mobile treadmill and closing your Exercise ring without leaving the (home) office.

Mouse

When it comes to the mouse, we feel nobody can dethrone Logitech. The Logitech MX Master 3S has to be the best pointing device out there, hands down. It excels at controlling multiple devices, from your laptop to desktop computer to iPad. The size is just right and it fits snuggly in the hand, while the infinite scrolling wheel that can go 1,000 lines a second helps you breeze through pages of documents.

Wrist Pad

Not to sound alarmist but carpal tunnel syndrome is real, and it affects many heavy keyboard users. To protect your hand from numbness, tingling, and weakness the affliction causes, invest in a wrist pad. Some mouse pads, like 3M models, have an inbuilt pad but you can also get them separately. Try and get your hands on a memory foam one as they are more responsive and softer.

Keyboard

In addition to its category-leading mouse, Logitech also produces some of the best keyboards in the industry. We recommend the Logitech MX Keys, especially if you want to keep your desk minimalist or simply have an eye for design. It’s not a case of style over substance, however. The wireless option, sleek as it is, provides a superb keystroke.

Desk Paraphernalia

Laptop Stand

If you already own a monitor, you’re definitely ready for the ultimate pro gadget — the laptop stand. The nifty device will come in handy if you like to work on two screens simultaneously or want to stow your laptop away and keep your workstation tidy. Just ensure it’s sturdy and compatible with other laptop brands and models, if you’re thinking of upgrading soon.

Wireless Mobile Charger

Even if you don’t consider yourself a gadget nut, you probably still own multiple devices that require regular charging. To power up your smartphone, earbuds, or portable speakers, this dual wireless charging pad from Mophie will ensure the messy wires are out of sight.

Speakers

You might need them for work but speakers can also help you get in the mood when you’re struggling with motivation. Consider developing a routine in the morning as you organise your thoughts to a soundtrack of classic jazz, pop, or any genre that works for you. For the best sound experience, you can’t go wrong with JBL Flip 5 and Harman Kardon — two of our favourite speakers that are of solid quality and won’t break the wallet.

Green is Good

Not everyone is blessed with panoramic vistas or even a solitary tree branch to brighten their view, so bring nature indoors instead and get a potted plant or two for your gadgety desk. Devil’s ivy, aglaonema, and sanseveria are all unfussy and will thrive if given occasional watering.

Ergonomic Chair

While there’s certainly no shortage of ergonomic office chairs out there, the top-of-the-range ones tend to be expensive. If you’re on a budget, consider less luxurious finishing but do not skimp on the all-important features like a movable headrest and multiple adjustment points, allowing you to refine your seating position to relieve stress at the neck, shoulders, and lower back.

Computer Monitor

Our team’s top pick in the monitor category is the Samsung Smart Monitor M5 (the 43-inch flagship M7 is fantastic too, but pricey). This technological marvel comes with built-in apps like Netflix and YouTube as well supporting the ability to view and edit Microsoft 365 documents and save them to the cloud thanks to its in-built WiFi. Crucially, the M5 is quite affordable and comes in 27 and 32 inches.
