Five most beautiful beaches in Thailand

TRAVEL HACKS

Thailand has a well-deserved reputation as a world-class beach destination. But with about 1,430 islands to choose from, where does one even start? To help you decide, here is a round-up of some of Thailand’s most dreamy beaches and places to stay based on your vacation needs.

Coral Cove Beach, Koh Samui - a quiet attraction

Swim: Although more of an open secret than a spot reserved for those in the know, Samui’s Coral Cove beach still retains its appeal as a serene gem that’s quite different from the crowded beaches of Chaweng and Lamai. Don’t expect developed infrastructure but come instead for contemplation of nature, a spot of snorkelling and blissed-out solitude.

Stay: From a beverage truck serving boozy tropical concoctions poolside to lazy soaks in the private villa pool, Avani+ Samui Resort distils the best of Samui while showcasing its playful side. As a bonus, guests get priority access to SEEN Beach Club Samui.

Railay Beach, Krabi - rock of ages

Swim: Railay is a rock-climbing and bouldering mecca, not a beach bum paradise, so be prepared to scale those limestone cliffs instead of admiring the soaring shapes from the lagoon down below. Although getting there is an adventure in itself, the long-tail boat ride doesn’t seem to deter the many adrenaline junkies who flock here during high season.

Stay: For a cliffside adventure of a different kind (think sundowners in an infinity pool), you can’t beat Avani Ao Nang Cliff Krabi Resort. Thanks to the resort’s central location, you will also have access to all the dive sites off the nearby islands in the bay. It's also a centre for long-tail boat tours to the beaches of limestone islands such as Ko Hong, Ko Poda and Ko Gai (Chicken Island).

Nui Beach, Koh Lanta - lunch with a view

Swim: Unless it’s diving that brings you to Koh Lanta (in which case you should be dropping anchor near Hin Daeng and Hin Muang cliffs), you can’t go wrong with Nui. A small isolated beach located in a bay at the foot of a jungle-clad mountain, it’s a bit of a foodie destination thanks to a restaurant clinging to the slope of a hill. After having your fill of local specialties and scenic views, descend to the beach via a staircase for an afternoon dip.

Stay: Located in the north of Koh Lanta, the new Avani+ puts you in a prime position to explore the island, or just lap up the sunshine right where you are. The plush décor will appeal to those with an eye for modern comforts and streamlined design, while serene forest and splendid tropical seas manage to instantly send stress-out urbanites into a state of bliss.

Laem Singh Beach, Phuket - just add the rum

Swim: Laem Singh has an almost Caribbean feel to it thanks to all the nodding palm trees with luxurious crowns casting generous shadows on a powdery sand carpet. Situated between the crowded Kamala and Surin beaches, one of Laem Singh’s attractions is its relative inaccessibility. Many tourists can’t be bothered catching a boat from Surin. Their loss!

Stay: Right on the doorstep of Avani+ Mai Khao Phuket Suites & Villas lies the stunning Phang Nga Bay with its secluded beaches, limestone cliffs, fascinating cave systems and archaeological sites. The property offers curated Avani tours bringing together sightseeing tips from local trend-setters, creatives, culture-makers and travel influencers in one handy guide listing the best picnic locations, sunset points and Insta-spots.

Kho Kho Khao, Khao Lak - beachcombers welcome

Swim: You can reach the island of Khao Lak by boat in about 30 minutes. To the east, you will find extensive mangrove forests; elsewhere, casuarinas and coconut trees line the wide, secluded sandy beaches. Beach walkers, nature lovers and beachcombers all feel equally at home on the laid-back Koh Kho Khao.

Stay: Rainforest, waterfalls, wildlife and a perfect stretch of untouched coastline right on the doorstep — Avani+ Khao Lak Resort has a lot going for it. Uninterrupted views of the Andaman Sea bring peace of mind with plenty of activities nearby to keep water sports enthusiasts happy.
